THE STORY
It was in my very first dream class I encountered a dream called Ball Of Fire. I could envision this dream as I read through the words slowly. I thought, “I need to paint this image. It would make a cool painting.”
Some days later I stretched a canvas 48”x50” and painted it black. I surmised that to see light I needed total darkness. I began to paint. After many layers and several weeks the image took form that became more and more ethereal as it progressed. Ideas would come to me over the course of developing this painting. I would pray for guidance, that the image would speak of His glory and be evident in the work. I let it hang in the studio for months letting no one view the work because of its unusual imagery.
One day a painter friend saw the painting when she stopped by to pick up some supplies she needed to borrow. When she saw the painting she said, “Wow, now that’s a painting!” I told her I thought I would take it to the gallery in Hiawassee to sell. I didn’t think the jury committee would accept it due to its atypical character. She said, “I would, sure, if there is enough wall space, I think they will take it.”
Days later, I called the chairperson of the jury committee and discussed the painting. She told me to bring it into the gallery the day she worked and she would review the painting to see if it would “fly”.
The day I planed to go in, I was writing in my journal. God spoke to my heart and said, “Today, I will give you favor.” I wrote this down and looked at the clock and I felt a sudden urgency to be at the gallery at 11:00am and not to be late. I hurried, as it was already 10:30am.
When I arrived it was 11 on the mark. I had the painting, Fire Ball, along with a few others. As I unloaded, I noticed the older couple that pulled into the parking lot at the same time as I did. They were watching me unload the paintings and then followed me into the gallery. It seems they could not take there eyes off the paintings, Fire Ball, in particular.
The couple was collectors of original art of artists in Georgia. I came to find out they had thousands collected. They wanted Fire Ball, and were willing to pay my price $950.00. I was so happy and surprised that it sold so quickly. It seemed to me God wanted these people to have this painting. They told me they had already decided where it would hang. I have them both a big hug. The transaction was made and they left with their prize.
As soon as they were gone the girls and I in the gallery began to sing and dance, laugh and hug. This was the largest sale on a single painting we had ever had. The word spread fast around town and an article was published in the local paper along with a color photo of the painting, Fire Ball.
