| | Plein Air Painters of Southern Appalachia Who we are: An informal group of local artists interested in painting outdoors in the beautiful Southern Appalachian Region. All media are welcomed (oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, pen, pencil, etc.) | | When we meet: • “Paint Outs” will be scheduled 2 days/month on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month. • Sessions will last approximately 4- 5 hours. • During cooler times, painting sessions will be in the afternoons, which will allow us to take advantage of improving light as we finish our pieces. Afternoon sessions will begin at 1:00 pm and last until 5:00 - 6:00 pm. • As the weather gets warmer, we will switch to morning sessions. Morning sessions will begin at 9:30 am and last until approximately 1:30 – 2:30 pm. • Participants may choose to leave earlier or stay later, however, we will request that people leaving early notify others in the group for safety and security reasons. | | Where we meet: • Meeting locations will be established in advance and a calendar maintained with locations for the next 1-2 months. • Participants will be responsible for their own transportation to and from the designated site, however, carpooling is encouraged where practical. • Sites will be selected based on the following criteria: • Proximity – initially, we will limit driving to within 1 hour radius of Hiawassee, GA. • Features – we will select locations with a variety of interesting features within a short distance of each other. • Accessibility – spot must have adequate parking, easy walking, etc. • Facilities – we must have access to nearby restroom facilities . • Timing – we will attempt to schedule sites during “peak beauty” periods, e.g., when flowers are blooming in gardens or water levels are good in lakes and rivers. • Variety – we will attempt to rotate to different types of sites to allow artists to capture a good cross-section of subjects (gardens, pastures, buildings, long-range views, waterfalls/lakes/ponds/streams, etc.). • Permission – we will obtain advance permission as needed for sites on private property. | | | | | |

It was fun! | Verlee | David's Assistant | | | | I saw how vibrent the Morning Glorys were so I started right in. I forgot the flowers close by noon, which gave me less time than usual.
